La Rochelle is probably one of the most interesting seaside towns in the whole of France and is also knowns as the city of Lights. The centre of La Rochelle and the waterfront date from the 17th century. Tourist are advised to visit the attractive area between the harbour and the place de Verdun. The Grosse Horloge is also a beautiful gateway to the old town which dominates the harbour and lets you access the rue du palais, which is filled with many shops and hotels under the 18th century traditional arcades. The main places to visit while in La Rochelle; include, the Musee du nouveau Monde and the Hotel de Ville.
