Halkidiki, also known as Chalkidiki, is situated in the south portion of Central Macedonia. The tall Cholomon mountains lie in the north and consist of a huge peninsula in the Aegean Sea, which resemble a human hand with three fingers - Kassandra, Sithonia, and Agion Oros are found on each of the fingers. Halkidiki’s capital is stunning Polygyros, a hot spot for summer visitors. Visitors to Polygyros can visit the great museum which holds many pieces from excavations in the area. Kassandra is the most western out of the three in Halkidiki. Kassandra is the one that offers many wonderfully and sandy beaches and small, pretty villages. The landscape of Kassandra is almost dreamlike full of beauty and charm. However this great spot in Greece is 90 km from the Thessaloniki airport but transport is quick and available at all times for those who wish to visit.
