Canico is a small resort on the southern coast of the Portuguese island of Madeira. Madeira’s rugged coastline and mountainous inland provide stunning scenery and Canico is one of the many picturesque settlements found on the island. Canico has a sandy beach from which visitors can take part in water sports, particularly deep sea diving. The open Atlantic Ocean is great for body boarding but those wanting a leisurely swim will find that most hotels have a swimming pool. Hiring a car is the best way to explore the winding mountain roads that lead to the rest of the island.
